"We live in a postmodern nation that offers a smorgasbord of beliefs promising to bring meaning and happiness to our lives—like believing new tennis shoes will get you an express ticket on the Hale-Bopp comet to heaven to the idea that researching your family tree will get you your own planet. Our problem is that we have stacked so many beliefs on our plate, and now all the juices have run together.

When it comes to absurd ideas, our nation is better stocked than a Golden Corral buffet. I've never figured out why the pineapple and the gravy are next to each other. Ideas are like food; some of them just don't go together.

For too long, too many of us have gazed through the spit guards at the buffet of beliefs. We've sampled a little bit of Buddhism, and a morsel of Mormonism. We've taken more samples than Puff Daddy. Our souls are a gooey mixture of mystic theology that goes together about as well Carmen and Courtney Love. Something has to change...

Each of the six sessions in this book focus on one of six simple beliefs. As you study them, you will be challenged to apply them to your life. As you choose your beliefs about purity, I hope you choose purity of heart and seek the one thing that matters—the will of God."
